Linksys responds to router problem: WRT5
   25 Nov 03 18:04:17

I have posted previously about outgoing PPTP not working on my new Linksys
WRT54G router. This is revision 1.1 and has the Cisco logo on the front of
   the case as well.

Amazingly, I managed (after several e-mail exchanges) to talk to a live
person in tech support (such as it is). It's hard for me to believe, but
apparently they never tested the PPTP Pass-Through checkbox functionality
which allows passing TCP protocol 47 packets in through the firewall. They
know of the problem and hope to have a firmware update with a month (or so).

How does a company (Linksys or Cicso) release something that hasn't passed
basic functionality testing? I consider anything that is a checkbox enabled
   feature to be basic functionality.
Now I'm sitting with two WRT54G routers (one for the office, one for the
remote) that I can't use until they decide it's time to actually release a
   firmware fix.

In addition, the e-mail support didn't offer anything of use to me. They
even told me to forward "Port 47" in the port forwarding setup!! Amazing! If
they're reading from a script, whoever wrote the script is also clueless! At
least they could have leveled with me and indicated that they knew of a
problem and were working on it!

Guess I'll be looking at other routers to be recommending to my clients.
