I use this setup to a VPN device (not a 2K server) using PPTP/MPPE and have       no problems at all just using the default settings on the Linksys. The       others are correct that the private networks on either side must be on       different subnets. Below is what I'd suggest, assuming that you are       connecting a Windows PPTP client THROUGH the Linksys. and not trying to use       the VPN capabilities of the Linksys itself (since I believe that's only       IPSec).              Take it in stages.       1. Connect the PC directly to the internet (take out the Linksys) and make       sure the VPN works. If it doesn't fix that first.       2. Reset the Linksys and update it to the latest firmware.       3. Connect the PC to the Linksys and ping the server. Personally I'd never       put a server of any kind directly on the internet, most real firewalls can       be VPN servers as well.       4. Try the VPN connection, if it works great if not go to step 5       5. Change the internal subnet of the Linksys. You will have to renew the       address or reboot the PC (I've assumed you are using DHCP on the Linksys).       6. Try the VPN again, it should work. If not, and it worked in step 1 then       I'd say you have a bad Linksys.              Like I said I've got a half dozen of these in use and have yet to change       anything more then the password.                            "Michael Mishler" |
