Actually, the first half of "Santa Claus: the Movie" is fairly cuddly,
in a periodic mid-80's Alexander Salkind "Blow the entire budget on the
big 007-Soundstage set" sort of way--
Until John Lithgow arrives in the second half to stink up the whole
thing, and drop the entire level of discussion to a point where it can't
   be rescued.

But of course, these were the days when theaters were independently
owned, and *could* show Christmas kiddie matinees, no matter how cheap,
   foreign or 60's.
As opposed to today, where studios advertise hip-hop midget gangsta
elves as if that's meant to be a GOOD thing.

Derek Janssen (between this and "Alvin", when "Golden Compass" looks
like the *sanest* movie this Christmas, we're in TROUBLE.) -_-
