   | So, I just skimmed the article:
   | Did we ever get a decent explanation for "Boa vs. Python"?

CGI is cheap. People are still impressed by Computer Generated Imagery
monsters and the production costs are low if the director and animation
crews are competent. Even showing really bad movies can gain a devoted
cynical audience who now "remember" the channel because they watched such an
   inane movie on it.

Bonnie Hammer at least realized two very important things.
#1 - Cheap may not be impressive, but it can get advertising bucks to
pay for something decent later on.
#2 - The "something decent" must be up to the level of quality that you
can recoup the costs and gain a profit by selling the episodes or movie on
   DVD later.

Pro-Wrestling isn't SCI-FI, but it brought eyeballs to the channel and
   advertisers.

EUREKA had high mainstream appeal in format, high production quality, no
big "scary" stuff to frighten off skittish parents of young children, and
appealing characters with "lighthearted Science Fiction".

Granted the "Crap Movie of the Month" sucked, but it worked in gaining
some attention and even some viewers (dumb people like "dumb Science
Fiction" and they are viewers with money to spend too). The "Crap Movie of
the Month" also helped pay for some interesting new Science Fiction stuff
too. We should remember that the SCI-FI CHANNEL was on the verge of going
broke before Bonnie Hammer took over and they seem to be banking a stable
   profit for now.

Bonnie Hammer did some things I hated and some things I liked quite a
   bit.
I'm not going to judge her just on axing "Mystery Science Theater 3000"
and the "Crap Movie of the Month" even though I tend to be tempted to want
   to do so.

I'd say at this point that the most memorable thing I hate Bonnie Hammer
for is taking the necessary in-channel promo bumpers for shows on the
channel they need to promote and running them to obscene overkill levels for
a couple of years as well as stomping all over the opening and end credits
on shows. Now that they've backed off on them and taken more of a favor to
tossing in fancifully entertaining "Watch our Channel" bumpers again I am
much happier with the in-channel advertising in general.
