   Thanks for the idea, unfortunately the problem is deeper.   
      
   When I select debug and show watch, the dialogue comes up enabling a   
   variable to be entered but on enabling the watch, the dialogue goes but no   
   watch window appears.   
      
   In protected mode, the "show watch" is greyed out.   
      
   This error is happening on several machines in different labs but is not   
   present on all machines in any one lab!!  Very weird!   
      
   Thanks anyway, if you have any other ideas please shout
