   I think the first Pascal implementation was on a CDC 6000 series   
   mainframe, which used punched cards and terminals.  The FORTRAN for   
   those machines had a program statement where you gave the name of the   
   program, and listed the files assigned to input and output (or just   
   INPUT and OUTPUT if they were the standard input and output.)  The   
   Pascal PROGRAM statement is almost identical to that, although the   
   parameters are no longer used.
