   Typically yes, but in TP compatibles like FPC/VPascal it can be 16-bit.

   Most 64-bit compilers (of any language) don't raise integer to 64-bit btw,   
   it would only unnecessarily inflate datastructure sizes. (and while there is   
   64-bit addresspace, there is typically still only not even 32-bit magnitude   
   real memory)
