       You're right. I was confusing it with the Psion Organiser, that had   
   a clock frequency chosen to be an exact multiple of all baud rates it   
   supported. I stand corrected.

       Well, even more importantly I'd say, the clock frequency that you   
   (correctly) state was divided by 12 before it was fed to the 8253 IRQ   
   timer, where it was divided by 64k to give the now famous 18.2 ticks.   
      
       Did you really remember this? I had to look it up in my old IBM   
   Technical Reference Manual for the Personal Computer XT (IBM part #   
   6936833) to refresh my memory. 8-)
