   So you stats that you can't do it yourself. ok. You didn't tell at this   
   point that you wanted it to use pchars.   
      
   1. pchars have to be initialized in TP/BP (not in Delphi)   
   2. you can add chars to a pchar with +   
   3. you must add a #0 when the string is finished (reading is finished)   
   4. you can pass this to the val function as already stated by other   
      people, what doesn't work is to pass an array to val - its a matter   
      of datatype)
