   Don't modify READLN or replace it.   
      
   Instead, insert your own Text File Device Drivers.  For Turbo 5 / 5.5 it's   
   explained in the chapter titled "Inside Turbo Pascal" and consists of four   
   routines, "Open," "InOut," "Flush" and "Close."  There are examples in there   
   about how to do it.

   If you replace the text driver instead, all the upper layer stuff works   
   normally.
