It'd be nice if there were an Pascal toolchain specially designed for
   education.

During Systems 2005 ( a IT fair in Muenchen), where we were with the
FPC/Lazarus booth I brainstormed a bit with some teachers about this.

E.g. a lazarus with all innecessities disabled, so that there is a bit of a
brake for students to play endlessly with features not related to the class
   (e.g. form designer)

Maybe later i the project even special designer could be made specially for
education. The basic idea was like those electricity experimentation boards
often used in Physic education in secondary school: a battery of inputs and
outputs with the ability to define yourself what is in between. Maybe model
   the state also.

Besides just being easy to use, and focus students on the task, this would
cause submissions to have the same structure, which makes it easier to
   correct.

The advantage of a free/open product like Lazarus would be the non-issue of
licensing, and the availability of the full version for e.g. students that
have more than average ability and interest in the matter.
