   You mean the POST-resident initialization methods for well-known IBM   
   adapters/planar features?   
      
   To some degree this exists in all PS/2s. It has to... If the system   
   isn't configured, the POST must initialize at least the most critical   
   systems - base memory, video, and storage. Some machines also have   
   POST-resident init methods for TR adapters to allow for R(I)PL (and   
   remote configuration in some cases).   
      
   The implementation differs between systems (and even BIOS revisions),   
   but I could make a write up about how it generally works.
