I may       get one to play with just because. lol.        > >        > > Ultimedia is great card for apps like Winamp, wav file play and recording       audio in Windows NT. It will never be any value in DOS game world because the       card's I/O addresses do not line up with any of the values needed for games       even if the game        supported WSS.        > >        > > M-ACPA I haven't played with mine enough yet to see if all the tips and       tricks would get it working for DOS games.       > As mentioned the SnarkBarker and the Texelec resound are really for DOS       gaming. They are reproductions of the SoundBlaster MCV because the design is       simple and a single person (TubeTimeUS) was able to reverse engineer the board       schematics. Additionally,        the chips that made up the SoundBlaster MCV eventually became pretty much off       the shelf parts you can simply order. The other cards are much more complex       and likely requires donor boards or some sort of sourcing of proprietary       chips.        >        > The M-ACPA and the Audiovation are way better cards but are for Windows and       OS/2, though the Audiovation has DOS gaming support (DOS windowed mode only)       and you can find hacked together drivers for the M-ACPA, I never got games in       DOS windowed mode to        work it would always hang. Also some DOS games don't like windowed mode in       general.        >        > Until I picked up my ChipChat for stupid, stupid, STUPID money.... I had       both an SnarkBarker AND an Audiovation in my main PS/2 machine. I would setup       the SnarkBarker for DOS games and wouldn't install any Creative drivers for       Windows, especially        because the Creative Drivers for Windows For Workgroups 3.11 has an issue       where you have to fuck around with VMAD.386 to get it work. Mind you the       drivers for fine for Windows 3.11, but I wanted network support. I would then       Install the Audiovation        drivers for Windows 3.11 and Windows 95.        >        > One other thing, the Resound has some tweaks to it's design produce better       sound than the SnarkBarker.       When I get my 9577 I will install win3.11 and OS/2 or Warp3 to it. It has now       only DOS6.22. I don´t want to play any DOS games and want only to listen       music or        play some old windows games like solitaire. So should I buy an M-ACPA or       Audiovation instead of Teletex cards?              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
