You may not like the show, but it IS a franchise. There's not only the
TV show, but also a proper movie, DVDs / Videos, toys, books, comics,
etc., even a ridiculous stage show and a Japanese cartoon show (I
think), just like any other franchise. Obviously not as big as Star
Trek or Star Wars, but it is still there and does have MANY, MANY fans.

And yes Frakes HAS destroyed the franchise by making the same idiotic
mistake that Beavis & Butthead have made with Enterprise - he ignored
the original background and history (what extremely little he managed
to work out AFTER being given the job and watching a few episodes) and
decided to make up his own story ... as usual with Hollyweird these
   days. :-(

"Lucky they dragged it out of mothballs"!? The ORIGINAL show has been
very popular in Japan for decades and has been going through a revival
in recent years in England, US, Australia, New Zealand, etc. It's never
really been "in mothballs" with repeats in many countries being played
over the years since they stopped making it. Judging by today's over
abundance of Poké-digicrap cartoons shoveled at kids, Thunderbirds is
the high art of children's entertainment, so it's no wonder it is still
   popular.
