   It was Spock who figured out how to get a view of the Romulan bridge.   
   If he knew what they looked like, the wise decision would have been not   
   to volunteer it to Kirk. He also said later, "If Romulans are an   
   offshoot of my Vulcan blood, then attack becomes even more imperative."   
   He didn't sound like he was sure about it.
