XPost: alt.startrek, alt.tv.star-trek, alt.tv.star-trek.enterprise       From: sureshot@pcwranglers.com              Graham, I understand that you would probably like it better if Kirk did       give them weapons, but just because he didn't doesn't mean that Tyree et       al were left to their doom without hope of help.              Kirk had OTHER things he could do for Tyree, and that is probably what       he actually did do. Obviously Kirk would not be satisfied to leave it       like that, and I don't think he would. But he sure as shit wouldn't       require his reluctant shipmates to break the PD against their will,       either.              Kirk probably dutifully filed a report in which he complained about the       situation and offered his testimony and evidence. Starfleet probably       called the top UFP guys for a quick conference over the situation, and       probably within hours, or days at the outside, Kirk or someone like him       was properly authorized to kick some Klingon butt.              Then Kirk and/or his equivalent would go ashore to barter with the       villagers and the hill people, and buy all the Klingon flintlocks back       from them. Some duly-appointed UFP representative would hang around to       oversee the restoration of normal relations between the tribes.              The Klingons would be shamed for their dishonorable breaking of a       treaty, and the renegade Klingons who were responsible would get some       justice.              That's how I figure the situation actually would play out. I figure       that that is the way it would play out, because that generally is the       way that they do things in TOS.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
