   Actually, that isn't hard to take.  His goal, all else be damned, was   
   to stop Shinzon from wiping out Earth.   
      
   What I couldn't swallow was what you already described... turning   
   Picard into a total and complete loser. We know Picard well enough   
   that looking death in the face would not turn him into a vegetable,   
   and yet a vegetable is precisely what Data saved at the end of the   
   sequence.
