   It depends on various things.   
      
   For example, if the cast and crew were contracted for three years, but   
   the show should be cancelled after two, then it can potentially work   
   out more expensive to pay off all the contract cancellations than to   
   simply make the show for another year.   
      
   Then there can be other things such as syndication contracts with other   
   broadcasters, where the makers are signed up to make three years of   
   episodes and breaking that contract can again be expensive.
