I didn't realize there were any TV show tapes _that_ far back.

Though your last statement is factually true, comparatively it's kind of
funny, because Trek is nowadays by far the most expensive mainstream TV
show on DVD. (Though checking dvdpricesearch.com, the Season 1 DVD set is
$84.38, close to what one episode cost, in constant dollars.)

I'd likely buy all of the Trek shows on DVD if they were less expensive, just
as a collector mentality kind of thing, even though I logically realize
I don't watch the same thing over and over (which is why I haven't bought
a lot of other DVDs.. though I would buy Blake's 7 on DVD).. I am transferring
the most of 2 seasons of 'er' I've saved to DVD though.
