   When I watch TOS, I always hold a small cornish pastie in front of the   
   screen, carefully aligning it with the heads of Klingon characters. By   
   nearly closing my eyes, sufficient visual blur is produced to create a quite   
   convincing "makeup upgrade" effect. This is normally sufficient to calm my   
   cognitive dissonance to a tolerable level.
