   Not really. Kirk was a bit of a nerd as a teen. If his grandfather was a   
   strange   
   space adventurer with his own warp capable ship no less it would allow for   
   adventuring story lines that wouldn't step on the toes of TOS.   
      
   I've heard this is the way they plan to go with Shatner.
