I got up at 6 to call at 12 French time. After some confusino about
the country code for France, a human being answered. The lawyer's
secretary I guess. Told her the story, she was sympathetic, gave me a
better email address than the one on the web, and said it would take a
few days, probably next week. So I sent the things listed above.

I've also looked up the French law they say authorizes this, and it
requires both parties, donor and donee, to sign before a French notary,
who does much more than an American notary. There actually is a
traveling notary who represents France who woudd come to this city, but
I'd bet anything that didnt' happen, and if procedure was not followed,
there is no gift from the start. If I can only convince him of some of
this. But right now he has no money, and his parents are trying to get
his diaability check to come to them and not to him. I'm going to go
over thee this weekend, and show him what I've learned so far.
