     Well, I've been taking a hard disk ever since 2016 with no ill   
   effects. Never a problem or even a look in some 20 or so trips.   
      
     Border security personel is quite used to seeing hard disks, memory   
   sticks, etc., etc.. Yes, they might want to inspect them, but the same   
   goes for laptops, phones, etc..
