   Notepad++ does not have this issue.  The caret line stays visible.  They   
   have a whole crapload of settings you can adjust and one specifically   
   for the caret settings.  You can change the width and also the blink   
   rate speed.  I have used it in the past, but I like the simplicity of   
   windows notepad for simply getting some text down.  But this just might   
   be the issue that pushes me to go with ++ from now on.
