   If your rear brakes are not adjusted right it can cause "drive line wrap   
   up" as my mechanic called it. He lubed the u-joints, slip joint and   
   adjusted the brakes and the clunk went away--- for awhile. Some say   
   it is because the springs allow the rear axle to rotate or wrap which   
   causes the slip joint to bind up until you let off of the brakes.  Do a   
   search for tacoma driveline wrap. Here is one forum:
