   Ah, thanks for clarifying. So I went back to read the thread. I'm not   
   sure what all the paranoia is about. No, the state doesn't confiscate   
   the car, obviously. You just can't renew the registration, unless and   
   until you make repairs. Before people start dissing CA's pollution   
   control laws, they might research the history of smog in Los Angeles.
