XPost: alt.religion.druid, alt.spirituality.druid       From: odubhain@comcast.net              Here's what Le Roux and Guyonvarc'h have to say about the Glam Dicinn       (courtesy of Babelfish):              Glam dicinn - supreme curse: satire pronounced by a file and of which       the immediate effect was the appearance on the face of the victim of       three furoncles (Shame, Tache and Ugliness) with, for short-term       consequence, the impossibility of paraitre (appearing?) in public, the       opprobe and death.              The magic principle in question is that of the incantation by the crí       which has legal value of protest differently. The glam dicinn is, in the       texts, generally the reaction of the file has which a king or a       high-ranking person refused, legitimately or not, a request for gift or       favour.              See Christian-J. Guyonvarc' H, Notes of Gallic and Celtic Etymology and       Lexicography, XX, 82, Means-Irish corrguinech (magician) and glam dicinn       (malediction supréme), in Ogam, 16, 1964, pp. 441-446 and 17, 1965, pp.       143-144.              *** end of Babelfish translation ***              I couldn't type in all the French diacritical markings so some words       were left untranslated but generally one gets the meanings. On pages       205-212 of their Les Druides they discuss satire. When time allows I'll       type this into Babelfish to more clearly understand what is said.              --       Searles O'Dubhain       The Summerlands       http://www.summerlands.com              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
