XPost: soc.culture.irish, soc.culture.british, uk.politics.misc       XPost: soc.genealogy.britain       From: ciaran@nospam.net              Diarmid              Go raibh maith agat !              How many Celtic families and lives were destroyed or reduced to a misery       in this process ? Later they came up with a more final solution - round       them up and concentrate them "beyond the Pale" and later again send them       overseas to concentrations on board death ships and in colonies       stuggling for their very existence. How many more perished and were in       misery yet again ? Every time it was accompanied by convenient       "rewriting of history" and attempts to wipe out the Celtic culture and       language.              In my experience this continues today though at least in Tony Blair's       Britain we have the start of some decency and sympathy in treatment       towards the Celts (and in Spain towards our compadres in Galicia,       Asturias and Euskadi, though not so far in France towards Breizh and       that part of Euskadi that is in France). But go to the Outer Hebrides       away from the main towns and see for yourself - its a hard life still in       a bleak environment and on your way have a look at the "Stone Country"       of Harris where most of the Gaels were concentrated by the land       clearances to be forced to leave on death ships to death colonies -       there's still the economic disadvantage at play to this day - the       cringing speaking of English by all when only one person in a crowd       speaks it as their first language - same in Brittany in France with       French. The only independent Celtic nation, Eire, in contrast, now has a       standard of living better than Britain - this is obviously the only       acceptable path to follow for the Celtic nations - the economic success       of Eire shows the way forward in the EU for the oppressed Celtic       nations: "Northern Ireland" to join Eire, "Scotland", "Wales",       "Cornwall", "The Isle of Man" and "Brittany", to become the independent       EU member states of Alba, Cymru, Kernow, Mannin and Breizh !!!              BTW when I say "concentrated" I mean in the sense of a Nazi       concentration camp - an apt analogy to what has happened/is still       happening to many Celts.              Slan              Ciaran              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
