Many did leave the field before Cromwell managed to get it together again.
However this site suggests it was two Scottish regiments who held the ground
and perhaps that is why Cromwell was able to counter!

Saying that I wouldn't in reality actually say that Marston Moor was a
Scottish victory. But I was making a point. The web-site describes the
anti-royalist forces as the allies! It doesn't claim it is an English or
Scottish army. So what I was asking the other poster is if Marston Moor
(with approximately 55% Scots) isn't a Scottish army, but Preston (with
possibly about 70% Scots) is a Scottish army, then at what percentage does
the situation change? Is it 60%, 63.33% etc?
