   You are absolutely right. You often hear the idea that Borderers don't   
   bother whether they are Scottish or English and that being a Borderer is the   
   main thing. Being a Borderer is certainly important to the idea but   
   generally we are as definitely Scottish or English as anyone else is.   
   Likewise when in the company of Geordies or folk from Northumberland I've   
   noticed they'll often have a dig at southerners but of course that doesn't   
   mean that they aren't themselves confirmed Englishmen. Had the border   
   actually been further south we'd have had an infinitely better football team   
   in recent years though :-)
