   This is true.  Yet they do have to pay income and property taxes.  I   
   am not sure about Social Security.  I have some Amish friends so I   
   know quite a bit about them.  I find it hard to understand many of   
   their ways, and their religion is rediculous, but they are generally   
   nice people.  Yet, I have meet a few of them who were assholes too,   
   but assholes exist in all types of people regardless of color or   
   beliefs.   
      
   One way the Amish avoid income and sales taxes is to barter as much as   
   they can.  But those who work regular salaried jobs pay the same taxes   
   as everyone else.  This would sort of indicate to me that they have no   
   choice but to pay for Social Security.  But maybe they have some   
   exemption.  I'll have to ask.  Most families have MANY children, so   
   they can write them off as exemptions on income taxes.
