   One thing must be said concerning the outcome of a proto-spiritual psychic   
   structure, and that is that one who is able to maintain such an ideal mental   
   disposition cannot help but view everything of this universe in terms of the   
   Principle of Social    
   Equality. One whose mind is constantly moving in the field of material   
   enjoyment will certainly live according to the Principle of Selfish Pleasure,   
   i.e. s/he will judge each and every aspect of life in terms of how much   
   selfish pleasure it brings to her    
   or him. But once the individual has become established in a proto-spiritual   
   mentality, that is to say, once s/he has become habituated to perceiving   
   everything in this universe as valid though diverse manifestations of a single   
   and supreme Consciousness,    
   then surely that person will have to develop a different attitude toward this   
   world. Having realized that everything is inherently divine, that everything   
   is exquisitely interwoven in one sweet and blissful cosmic pattern, the   
   individual can no longer be    
   content to pass her or his days just running after one's own selfish pleasure.   
   Rather, s/he can easily understand that the welfare of the individual depends   
   upon the welfare of the collectivity, and s/he will certainly experience the   
   sufferings of others    
   in a personal way. Automatically, s/he will take an interest in serving others   
   – not “doing unto others as you would have them do unto you” but rather always   
   “doing unto others what is good for them because it is also good for you”. The   
   person who    
   possesses a proto-spiritual mentality can never discriminate against anyone or   
   anything; s/he will naturally uphold the Principle of Social Equality. [432]   
      
   Thus, in this second stage of Neo-Humanism, Spirituality in Essence, this   
   spirituality no longer remains confined to a mere cult but rather it emerges   
   as the cardinal principle of one's life. One who has developed an awakened   
   conscience and a proto-   
   spiritual mentality must live in a rational way, adhering to the Principle of   
   Social Equality. Indeed, rationality and the Principle of Social Equality are   
   very closely interrelated; for, in the final analysis, rationality demands   
   that the individual    
   move solely in accordance with that which is conducive to the greatest welfare   
   and happiness of all – an ideal that can be effectuated only after one has   
   understood deeply the Principle of Social Equality.   
      
   A spiritual aspirant must be first and foremost an honest person, and as an   
   honest woman or man s/he has no alternative but to fight against injustice.   
   S/he cannot simply maintain a principle in the inner life, and do nothing to   
   uphold it in the external    
   world. Therefore, in this second stage of Neo-Humanism the Neo-Humanist not   
   only recognizes spirituality as a principle, but s/he also and simultaneously   
   shoulders a sacred responsibility to fight against all of the narrow   
   sentiments which have thus far    
   obstructed the path of human progress. (I should say here that the fight,   
   though guided by Spirituality in Essence, must nevertheless be recognized as   
   an intrinsic aspect of Spirituality as a Cult.) In this fight, simple   
   rationality will be sufficient to    
   identify the malignant geo-sentiments, as such sentiments are relatively crude   
   and generally quite illogical. With rationality alone one should be able to   
   see through the defective reasoning behind all forms of geo-politics,   
   geo-religion, geo-socialism,    
   and so on. Colonialism and even neo-colonialism can never withstand the   
   application of rational analysis. However, it is often much more difficult to   
   perceive the flaws in various socio-sentiments, in particular, the ordinary   
   humanistic sentiments. It is    
   also quite difficult at times to pinpoint the human chameleons who are busy   
   propagating those sentiments. [433] Hence, when socio-sentiments and their   
   protagonists confront us, it becomes necessary to combine rationality with   
   proto-psycho-spirituality in    
   order to recognize those sentiments and the accompanying pseudo-reformists and   
   vocal revolutionaries. One who practices proto-psycho-spirituality is guided   
   by this practice to think in a particular way. Thereafter, when one notices   
   that one's own    
   benevolent mode of thinking is not reflected in the activities of others, it   
   becomes easy to understand the true nature of those other persons. Then, both   
   the evil geniuses and their pseudo-humanistic strategy are quickly e   
   posed. [434]   
      
   From its very birth, human society has been passing through a long dark night   
   of the soul. Now, at last, the crimson dawn is breaking. Not only optimism but   
   also reason supports the vision of a bright and glittering future, more   
   brilliant than diamonds,    
   more radiant than the sun. However, first it is necessary for humanity to   
   shatter all remaining chains of dogma. Those spiritual aspirants established   
   in the second stage of Neo-Humanism must certainly have a powerful impact, not   
   only on the few    
   individuals with whom they, interact, but also upon the entire human society.   
   Ultimately, it is only such towering personalities who can possibly lead   
   humanity to freedom.   
      
   Those whose words and actions do not reflect the Principle of Social Equality   
   must be guided by some degree of selfish motivation. To the extent that they   
   are acting in accordance with petty ambitions, they may be understood to be   
   still in bondage. And,    
   if they have not yet achieved liberation themselves, then certainly they   
   cannot be a proper beacon of freedom for others, what to speak of actually   
   setting others free. Quite to the contrary with those persons whose lives   
   reflect the Principle of Social    
   Equality – who think, speak and act according to that Principle – they will   
   assuredly exert a most beneficial influence upon this planet. At first glance,   
   they may appear to be moving somewhat slower than others for, being guided by   
   rationality, as    
   opposed to instinct or sentiment, they must take more time in making   
   decisions. However, with the help of rationality, their actions are not only   
   systematic but also progressive – each step is a step in the right direction.   
   Thus, each and every action,    
   as well as the cumulative and long term effects of those actions will surely   
   be a boon to humanity.   
      
   As a result of the activities of these Neo-Humanists, human society as a whole   
   will reject sentimentality and adopt rationality in its place – in each and   
   every sphere of collective existence the Principle of Selfish Pleasure will   
   gradually give way to    
   the Principle of Social Equality. [435] And when the people of this world have   
   learned to think rationally, and when they have understood the Principle of   
   Social Equality from the core of their hearts, then they, too, will   
   automatically develop an    
   awakened conscience and a proto-spiritual mentality – their intellects will   
   also be liberated. In this way the thought processes of the Collective Human   
   Mind will undergo a tremendous transformation. The entire humanity will itself   
   become a powerful    
   spiritual force, against which no pseudo-humanistic strategy can work. [436]
