Then, after recognizing them, it is their duty to       expose them to others also, to make people understand that they are repeatedly       harming human        society. It is not enough for one to personally unmask them: one must open the       eyes of others also. Only in this way can the well-being of the world be       promoted. Thus it will not be sufficient to lie peacefully in wait, like       goody-goodies in isolated        ivory towers. One will have to spread one's wings and soar high into the blue       firmament”.              Shrii Prabhat Rainjan Sarkar              The Liberation of Intellect – Neo-Humanism                                          ----------------------------------------------------------------       ---------------              [1] Here one should be careful to distinguish between Brahma (the Infinite       Entity) and Brahma' (the mythological Creator of this Universe, who is but one       third of a Hindu trinity comprising the Creator, the Sustainer and the       Destroyer). One must also be        careful about the use of the words God and Allah, both of which have many       limiting and anthropomorphic connotations.              [2] Some philosophers have raised a storm in their tea cups over the question       of whether or not Infinity is an entity or a state of being. The same question       might also be asked about human existence as well. Is a human being a state or       an entity?        Nowadays modern physicists recognize the electron as both a particle and a       wave. Similarly, a human being is both an entity and a state of being. Why,       then, should we not conceive of the Supreme Being, Infinity, as both entity       and state? Perhaps the        concept of vibrational states is more subtle than the more static notion of       entitative existence. However, both points of view are useful and accurate at       times. Should the philosophers wish to give a final judgement on this matter       concerning Infinity,        then at least one of them must become infinite in order to be sure.       Unfortunately, or fortunately, in that very instant when the philosopher       merges in the Infinite, s/he will cease to exist, for absolute infinity (as       even all the philosophers admit) is        always only one.              [3] Exodus 20:5.              [4] 1 Chronicles 21:1; Job 1:6; Zechariah 3:1-2; Matthew 4:1-11; and       Revelation 2:13.              [5] Genesis 1:28.              [6] The psalms of David reveal a clear preoccupation with deliverance from and       destruction of enemies. See Psalms: Psalm 1, Psalm 2, Psalm 3.              [7] Let us hope that this is the case. The sad history of the world reveals       that whenever and wherever an imbalance has grown between the development of a       more scientific technology and the refinement of a more humane civilization,       that human society has        invariably destroyed itself. Today we find only archaeological remnants to       remind us of the once great Greek, Roman and Egyptian societies, all three of       which collapsed under the weight of material aggrandizement made possible by       the science of the age        and untempered by more subtle spiritual values. (Quite probably it was the       same cause which led to the cataclysmic disappearance of Atlantis and Lemuria,       but there the destruction was so comprehensive that even today we have scant       information about those        ancient civilizations.)              One more point should be made. The real crisis today is not the advancement of       science nor the development of nuclear weapons – no one can reverse the course       of scientific advancement just as no one can turn back the wheels of time. Our       problem today is        that the standard of civilization lags far behind. While science is moving       ahead by leaps and bounds, breaking all the limitations of outmoded and often       dogmatic theories, civilization remains steeped in the mire of superstition.       Today's challenge is to        apply rational and liberated intellect to the pressing problems of       civilization – to raise the consciousness of the general populace and to       establish more harmonious balance between science and civilization. Those who       try to retard or discard the        advancement of science (in order to reduce science to the current standard of       civilization) want only to keep society entombed with the catafalque of old       conventions from which they personally derive a form of selfish though       sometimes illusory        gratification. Their negative approach, however, has no place in a dynamic       society; their pernicious influence in both past and present has done and       still does wreak immeasurable harm. A healthy human society must adopt a       positive and optimistic approach        to life. Human existence is a progressive movement within the context of a       benevolent Universe.              [8] In the sale of indulgences the Church had discovered a fantastic way to       raise money with minimal effort. This program was so lucrative that there       remain paintings of the event which depict government officials minting new       coins so that the people        could have the wherewithal to buy a pardon from purgatory for their poor       departed relatives. Church propaganda promoted indulgences by assuring the       public that those who secured indulgences need not be contrite themselves for       the sins of their deceased        family members. All they had to do was pay appropriate fees and “As soon as       the coin in the coffer rings, the soul from purgatory springs.”              [9] The Mormons, also known as the Latter Day Saints, number almost four       million, of whom about 80% live in the U.S.A., including approximately 70% of       the population of the state of Utah. Besides being known for maintaining       detailed and extensive        genealogical records for the alleged purpose of saving the dead through       baptism by proxy, the Mormons have also achieved a degree of notoriety for       their historical indulgence in and support of the practice of polygamy, and       for their steadfast refusal to        accept anyone with black skin into their priesthood. Although polygamy was       ultimately rejected just before the end of the nineteenth century, it has been       only in very recent years that the curse of Joseph Smith, the founding father,       which banned persons        with black skins from the priesthood has been lifted. Perhaps even more       interesting and less well known is the Mormon adherence to a poly-theistic       creed that has God evolving from human beings, and the Trinity existing as       three distinctly separate        entities.              [10] These may be termed respectively as “geo-sentiment minimitis” and       “geo-sentiment maximitis”.                     [continued in next message]              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
