Ever notice in the Star Trek world that everybody does their job? You never
see the shiftless clock-watcher, or the person who constantly calls in sick,
or the person who waste time playing 3-D chess on the computer (well, we did
see Spock do it once, but he's an officer, and rank has its privilages).

also, it seems that everybody gets the same amount of compensation - the
quarters for all the officers have all the same expensive anemities - you
never see Miles O'Brian sitting at the table with a pile of bills wondering
how he's going to pay them all on time. You never see Captain Kirk on the
comunicator explaining to the Intergalactic 'Check-Into-Cash' why his
paycheck is late, or Ben Sisko trying to wrangle a deal for the cute little
red convertible space shuttle with the local 'Milky Way Finance' Office.
