   In some communities in eastern Germany, no voters are choosing the Greens   
   anymore. The AfD is doing well, however. In some villages, it is achieving   
   second vote results of around 70 percent. The AfD is the dominant   
   political force in many communities in eastern Germany in the 2025 federal   
   election. This is shown by election results at the community level, which   
   were published by the state election authorities during the course of   
   Monday. The AfD is particularly successful in Thuringia, where the state   
   association, as in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, is classified as definitely   
   right-wing extremist by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.   
   The far-right party became the strongest force in Thuringia with 38.6   
   percent. The AfD received more than 70 percent of the votes in two   
   communities - in Karlsdorf (117 inhabitants, Saale-Holzland district, 73.3   
   percent) and Göschitz (203 inhabitants, Saale-Orla district, 71.4   
   percent). In both villages, the AfD already achieved top results in the   
   state elections.   
      
   Election Sunday in Thuringia was again bitter for the traffic light   
   parties:   
   The SPD is below the five percent hurdle in 113 of the 605 municipalities.   
   In   
   Teichwitz (132 inhabitants, Greiz district), no one voted for the   
   chancellor's party, the SPD. The Greens received no votes at all in 29   
   municipalities,   
   including Karlsdorf and Göschitz, and the FDP in twelve. Accordingly, the   
   SPD in Thuringia came out of the election with 8.8 percent, the Greens   
   with 4.2 percent and the FDP with only 2.8 percent.   
      
   Saxony: AfD strongholds in Görlitz and the Ore Mountains   
      
   The AfD was equally successful in Saxony, where it achieved 38.5 percent.   
   At the constituency level, the party achieved results that are otherwise   
   only achieved by the CSU in Bavaria and the CDU in rural parts of North   
   Rhine-Westphalia.   
      
   In the Görlitz constituency, the AfD won 46.6 percent of the second votes,   
   AfD leader   
   Tino Chrupalla was re-elected with 48.8 percent. The party's strongholds   
   are also in Upper Lusatia   
   and the Ore Mountains, and in the 1,000-inhabitant community of Schönbach   
   (Görlitz district), the AfD received 65.6 percent.   
      
   In Brandenburg, the AfD achieved 32.5 percent nationwide, becoming the   
   strongest force in all constituencies with the exception of Potsdam.   
   There, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) won the direct mandate. The   
   Brandenburg frontrunner is the community of Jämlitz-Klein Düben with 69.2   
   percent (439   
   inhabitants, Spree-Neiße district).   
      
   The CDU was the strongest second vote force in Scholz's constituency with   
   19.2 percent, just ahead of the AfD with 18.5 percent and the SPD with   
   17.1 percent.   
   In terms of first votes, the AfD candidate Alexander Tassis was ahead of   
   Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens).
