|    Who but God alone can forgive sins?    |

"Who but God alone can forgive sins?"

«Child, your sins are forgiven.» By these words Christ wished to be
acknowledged as God even while concealing himself from people's eyes
in the appearance of a man. He was likened to the prophets because of
his demonstrations of power and his miracles, and yet it was due to
him and to his own power that they, too, had worked their miracles. To
bestow forgiveness for sins is not in human power; it is the sign that
distinguishes God. So it was in this way that Jesus began to reveal
his divinity in human hearts--and this made the Pharisees mad with
rage. They replied: «This man is blaspheming! Who but God alone can
   forgive sins?»
Oh you Pharisee! You think yourself knowledgeable but you are only an
ignoramus! You think you are honoring God but you fail to recognise
him! You think you are bearing witness but you are bearing the blows!
If God is truly he who forgives sins, why do you not admit to Christ's
divinity? Since he is able to bestow forgiveness on a single sin
therefore it is he who wipes out the sins of the whole world: «See the
Lamb of God! This is he who takes away the sin of the world» (Jn
1,29). Listen to him so that you may be able to grasp his divinity,
for he has entered into the depths of your being. Behold him: he has
reached to the deep places of your thoughts. Understand the one who
exposes the secret intentions of your heart.

July 18th - St. Theneva of Glasgow
(also known as Dwynwen, Thaney, Thenaw, Thenog, Thenova)

   7th century.

Saint Theneva was a British princess, daughter of a
British prince, Lothus (from whom the province of Lothian was called).
When it was discovered that she had conceived out of wedlock, she was
thrown from a cliff. Unharmed at the bottom, she was then set adrift
in a boat on the Firth of Forth. It was expected that she would die at
sea, but God had other plans for the young woman.

She landed at Culross, where she was sheltered by Saint Serf and gave
birth to Saint Kentigern, named Mongo ("darling") by his
foster-father, Serf. Kentigerm remained with Saint Serf until he
   reached manhood.

Saint Theneva gave her name to Saint Enoch's Square and Railway
Station in Glasgow, Scotland, where she is co-patron together with
   her son (Benedictines, Delaney).

   Saint Quote:
Our actions have a tongue of their own; they have an eloquence of
their own, even when the tongue is silent. For deeds prove the lover
   more than words.
   --Saint Cyril of Jerusalem

   Bible Quote
50 Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, I saw you under the fig
tree, do you believe? You shall see greater things than these.” 51 And
he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven
opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of
   man.” (John 1: 50-51) RSVCE

Oratio ad Sanctum Ioseph Ante Missam (Prayer to St. Joseph before Mass)

O Blessed Joseph, happy man, to whom it was given not only to see and to
hear that God Whom many kings longed to see, and saw not, to hear, and
heard not; but also to carry Him in your arms, to embrace Him, to clothe
Him, and guard and defend Him.

   V. Pray for us, O Blessed Joseph.
   R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

O God, Who has given us a royal priesthood, we beseech Thee, that as
Blessed Joseph was found worthy to touch with his hands, and to bear in his
arms, Thine only-begotten Son, born of the Virgin Mary, so may we be made
fit, by cleanness of heart and blamelessness of life, to minister at Thy
holy altar; may we, this day, with reverent devotion partake of the Sacred
Body and Blood of Thine Only-begotten Son, and may we in the world to come
be accounted worthy of receiving an everlasting reward. Through the same
   Christ our Lord. Amen.
