   Rich to All

Excerpt from commentary on Mt. 25:35

Hear St. Basil (Conc. 4, de Eleemosyn.), “That bread, which thou
holdest back, belongs to the hungry; the naked claims that garment
which thou art keeping in thy chest. That shoe which is mouldering
away at home is his who is shoeless. Thus thou art wronging just as
many as thou dost not help with thy goods whilst thou mayest.”
“Blessed,” says David, “is the man that is merciful and lendeth; he
guideth his words with discretion” (Ps. cxii. 5)

St. Chrysostom reads, “he renders his accounts.” As much as to say,
“He will render a most excellent account of his life; he will plead
successfully his cause before the Supreme Judge.” “And indeed,” says
the same St. Chrysostom, “it must needs be that the soul which is rich
in mercy can never be overwhelmed with heavy troubles of the mind.”
And again, “Uselessly will sins accuse him whom the poor man excuses.
And he cannot be excused whom the poor man’s hunger accuses. He will
witness a terrible day who shall enter into the judgment without the
intercession of the poor. He who lends to a poor man makes the Judge
   Himself his debtor”
--(St. Peter Chrysolog. Serm. 40). Excerpt from commentary on Mt. 25:35

January 23rd - St. Maimbod, Martyr (AC)

c.880 in Kaltenbrunn, Alsace, Gaul (modern France)

Saint Maimbod was a martyr who went to Alsace from Ireland as a
missionary. Maimbod was a pilgrim to the tombs of many saints, as he
wandered he spread the faith throughout northern Italy and Gaul. In
Burgundy a nobleman gave him hospitality and unsuccessfully pressed
him to settle there. Upon Maimbod's departure, the nobleman gave
Maimbod a pair of gloves as a reminder to pray for him. He was praying
at the church of Domnipetra near Katlenbrunn eight miles from
Besançon, when he was set upon by some robbers who believed he had
money because he was wearing gloves.

When miracles began to occur at his tomb in Domnipetra, Count Aszo of
Monteliard asked the blind Bishop Berengarius for a gift of the
saint's relics. Berengarius delegated the translation ceremony to his
coadjutor, Bishop Stephen. During the rite, Berengarius miraculously
received his sight and instituted a feast in honor of the saint.
Although Maimbod's relics were destroyed in the 16th century, his
feast his commemorated in the diocese of Besançon (Attwater2,
Benedictines, Coulson, D'Arcy, Encyclopedia, Fitzpatrick, O'Hanlon,
   O'Kelly).

   Saint Quote:
We put pride into everything like salt. We like to see that our good
works are known. If our virtues are seen, we are pleased; if our
faults are perceived, we are sad. I remark that in a great many
people; if one says anything to them, it disturbs them, it annoys
them. The saints were not like that--they were vexed if their virtues
were known, and pleased that their imperfections should be seen.
   --St. Jean Marie Baptiste Vianney

   Bible Quote:
"So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God
who gives the increase." (1 Corinthians 3:7)

   The Mystical Mass Prayer

Eternal Father, we offer to You, through the Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart
of Mary, in the Holy Spirit, the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Our Lord
Jesus Christ, in union with each Mass celebrated today and everyday until
   the end of time.

With Mother Mary, Saint Joseph, each Angel and Saint in Heaven, each soul in
Purgatory, each person in the Body of Christ and the Family of God, we offer
each act of love, adoration, praise and worship. We offer each act of
thanksgiving for blessings, graces and gifts received. We offer each act of
reparation for sins that have been, are being and will be committed until
the end of time. And we offer each act of intercessory prayer. We offer all
these prayers in union with Jesus in each Mass celebrated throughout the
   world.

We stand before You, Triune God, like the Prodigal Son asking to be
accepted, like the Publican asking for mercy and forgiveness, like the
Paralytic asking for healing and strength, and like the Good Thief asking
for salvation. We consecrate ourselves and all of creation to You.

Eternal Father, we ask You in the name of Jesus, through the power of His
Precious Blood, through His death on the Cross, through His Resurrection and
Ascension to send forth the Holy Spirit upon all mankind.

Holy Spirit, we ask for an outpouring of Your graces, blessings and gifts
upon those who do not believe that they may believe; upon those who are
doubtful or confused that they may understand; upon those who are lukewarm
or indifferent that they may be transformed; upon those who are constantly
living in the state of sin, that they may be converted; upon those who are
weak that they may be strengthened; upon those who are holy, that they may
   persevere.

We ask You to bless our Holy Father. Give him strength and health in mind,
   body, soul, and spirit.

Bless his ministry and make it fruitful. Protect him from his enemies. Bless
each cardinal, bishop, priest, brother, sister and all aspiring to the
religious life, especially . and grant many the gift of a vocation to the
   priesthood and religious life.

Bless each member of our families, relatives and friends, especially….

Bless the poor, the sick, the underprivileged, the dying and all those in
   need, especially.

Bless those who have died and are in the state of purification. That they
may be taken to heaven, especially ….

We offer and consecrate ourselves and all creation to You, Heart of Jesus,
Mary and Joseph. We ask you Mary and Joseph to take us with all our hopes
and desires. Please offer them with Jesus in the Holy Spirit to our Heavenly
Father, in union with each Mass offered throughout all time.

We consecrate ourselves to Archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, and
each Angel, especially our Guardian Angel. We ask in the Name of Jesus,
through our Mother Mary. Queen of all Angels, that You, O Heavenly Father,
send forth legions of Angels to minister to us: Archangel Michael with his
   legions to ward off the attacks of the world, the flesh and the devil;
Archangel Gabriel with his legions to teach us that we may know and do Your
will, and that they may help us to catechize and evangelize; Archangel
Raphael with his legions to heal our woundedness, supply for our limitations
and strengthen us in our weakness, to overcome demonic depression, to give
us joy in the spirit, to protect us in our travels and to supply all of our
   needs.
