   On this we agree.
That being said, for the first time since the Vietnam War I've joined the
Peace initiative. My Methodist bishops have come out with a statement
against the Iraq war. I actually surprised myself being in full agreement
with that statement and have begun to be an anti-war activist. I wonder if
the powers that be will read this and place me on 'The List'. To even
express this fear is how so many people I talk to view what has happened to
   our American government.
   I'm re-reading CSL's 'Why I Am Not a Pacifist'. I'll write about it soon.
I'll tell you that I went to a Quaken affiliated college, Earlham in
Richmond, Indiana, for my undergrad work. My Plato prof was the great
philosopher and Quaker D. Elton Trueblood. I've not felt so betrayed by my
governement since those days as I feel today- betrayed morally and
spiritually by my government. The damage is so deep to the American system
as not to be fully assessed for decades; but we've given up many civil
liberties in the guise of anti-terrorism, we've been lied to, we are victims
of almost daily scare tactics (such as, Do what I say or the terrorist will
win, and divers convolutions of same.), billions up on billions are being
   spent to what end?
The human toll on all sides is horrific and no end in sight. We are being
led by an utterly incompetent leader for all the wrong and false reasons.
We've talked about a 'just war' on this group. We've discussed Geneva
Accords on this group. This 'war' unsanctioned by Congress, indeed, not
dealt with in any meaningful way by Congress, is immoral. Period.
Dan has given some good insight into CSL's thinking about the Spanish
American war. I'll write something after I've re-studied CSL's essay, 'Why
   I Am Not a Pacifist'.
I'd appreciate hearing from others- hopefully not politics, but the moral
and actual efficacy of the war in specifically Iraq, and perhaps
   Afghanistan.
Did we do enough to be peacemakers as we are commanded by Christ before war
was waged in these two countries?
   Pray for Peace!
