   There's plenty of newsservers you don't have to pay for, at least here   
   in Europe. Even better, there's some organizations who do Usenet   
   peering with servers operated by private persons; so if you or anyone   
   else has got an (even somewhat older) box you can leave on 24/7 with a   
   flatrate internet connection, you can setup your own server. Only cost   
   is electricity, a bit of time for administration, and bandwidth isn't that   
   substantial if you don't carry the binary groups.   
      
   All doable. There's no need to depend on some big central organizations   
   like AT&T or Verizon, especially not with NNTP.
