Others have better sight than I, I'm sure. Lewis was       > not against war.              Wait a minute, Ann, is that really what you wanted to say? Maybe you've       read something I haven't (you've probably read a lot that I haven't)       but the only thoughts I've ever gleaned from Lewis' remarks about war       are that he disapproved of cowardice and subjugation to tyranny (I have       been soundly tongue lashed in other groups for describing some of the       attitudes that he has expressed as 'parochial'. I eventually       surrendered).              C.S. Lewis served in the worst war ever fought from the point of view       of the common man in arms (WWII was much more horrible overall, but       easier on the combatants in terms of just plain, day to day suffering).       It's hard to imagine any man returning from that madness with anything       but a loathing for war.              I don't recall anywhere where he expressed an opinion one way or the       other as to whether he was opposed to or in favor of combat as a means       of settling human disputes. However, I would have 'guessed' that, if       one of us were to ask him about it, he would have answered something       along the lines of, "Oh, heavens no. God forbid. But if you are faced       with it and you have no other choice then you must stand with your       brothers and fight".              Yours in Christ              John              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
