   Jonathan Franzen wrote an essay on this. American are vocal about protecting   
   their private spaces, but no one is protecting the public spaces. You go   
   to a public space to be seen, to watch others, to observe your fellow   
   humanity. By using her phone, Madame Chucklehead was carving out a piece of   
   private space from the public area. That is wrong.
