   There is no mention in the Bible of slavery being wrong, and for a long time   
   afterwards, no Christian suggested it either. In fact, both St. Augustine   
   and Thomas Aquinas declared that slavery was an institution sanctioned by   
   God, as a punishment for human sinfulness. Which of course doesn't mean that   
   all Christians think that to be the case.
