XPost: alt.christnet.christnews, alt.bible, alt.christnet.christnews       XPost: alt.religion.christian.east-orthodox       From: .robert@mu.way              This does not apply to tongues solely but to all Gifts of the Spirit.              How long will tongues continue to be manifested? “Whether there be       prophecies, they shall fail: whether there be tongues, they shall cease:       whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we       prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is       in part shall be done away.” I Cor. 13:8-10. The phrase, “when that which       is perfect is come,” is translated from the Greek phrase “τὸ       τέλειον ”. The word “teleion” is a singular neuter term which       refers to Jesus Christ. Thayer’s Greek-English Lexicon, p. 618, defines the       phrase “τὸ τέλειον ” as used in I Cor. 13:10: “The perfect       state of all things, to be ushered in by the return of Christ from heaven.”              , substantively, that which is perfect: consummate human integrity and       virtue. Ro.xii. 2 [al. take it here as an adj. belonging to Oéhnpa]; the       perfect state of all things, to be ushered in by the return of. Christ from       heaven, 1 Co.xiii. 10; of men, full-grown, adult; of full age, mature,              There are only seven times in the NT is the word used.              1 Corinthians 13:10 Adj-ANS              GRK: ἔλθῃ       τὸ τέλειον τὸ ἐκ              NAS: but when the perfect comes,              KJV: when that which is perfect is come,              INT: might come that which is perfect that in              Paul said, “Now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now       I know in part: but then (when that which is perfect is come) shall I know       even as also I am known.” I Cor. 13:12. This speaks to all of us, the       believers, when we are resurrected/transformed from this world into the next.              He who stands face to face in the presence of God, there will be no need for       prophecies, tongues and knowledge. But until that which is perfect (Jesus       Christ) is come, that which is in part will remain. And as long as there       remains prophecies and knowledge, tongues shall not cease. So Paul instructed       the church to COME BEHIND IN NO GIFT, WAITING FOR THE COMING OF OUR LORD       JESUS CHRIST. I Cor. 1:7.              Look in Thayer’s Lexicon of 1877 p 618              Did I receive this from the Lord, first? Yes, he gave my the understanding of       it, as he also has given it to many others.              ----------------------------------------------------------              1Co 13:1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but I do not have       love, I have become as sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.              ==================================              “Love has patience, is kind; love is not envious; love is not vain, is not       puffed up; does not behave indecently, does not pursue its own things, is not       easily provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but       rejoices in the truth. Love quietly covers all things, believes all things,       hopes all things, endures all things.” (1Co 13:4-7)              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
