[continued from previous message]              Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause       wherefore ye are come?       [22] And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that       feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned       from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words       of thee.       [23] Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went       away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.       [24] And the morrow after they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited       for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.       [25] And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his       feet, and worshipped him.       [26] But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.       [27] And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come       together.       [28] And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a       man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but       God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.       [29] Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent       for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?       [30] And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at       the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in       bright clothing,       [31] And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in       remembrance in the sight of God.       [32] Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter;       he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when       he cometh, shall speak unto thee.       [33] Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou       art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all       things that are commanded thee of God.              Peter Speaks in Cornelius' House              34 (Dt 10:17; 2Ch 19:7) Then Peter began to speak, saying,       "Truthfully, I perceive that God is no respecter of persons.       35 (Ac 10:2; 15:9) But in every nation he who fears Him       and works righteousness is accepted by Him.       36 (Mt 28:18; Ac 2:36) The word which He sent to the children of Israel,       preaching peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all,       37 the word, which you know, that was proclaimed throughout all Judea,       beginning from Galilee after the baptism which John preached:       38 (Lk 4:18; Jn 3:2) how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit       and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed       by the devil, for God was with Him.       39 (Lk 24:48; Ac 10:41) "We are witnesses of all that He did both in the land       of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree.       40 (Ac 2:24) But God raised Him on the third day and presented Him publicly,       41 (Jn 14:22; Ac 10:39) not to all the people,       but to witnesses previously chosen by God,       to us who ate and drank with Him after He rose from the dead.       42 (Ac 17:31; 2Ti 4:1) He commanded us to preach to the people       and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be the       Judge of the living and the dead.       43 (Ac 15:9; Isa 53:11) To Him all the prophets bear witness that whoever       believes in Him will receive remission of sins through His name."              [34] Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God       is no respecter of persons:       [35] But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is       accepted with him.       [36] The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by       Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)       [37] That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea,       and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;       [38] How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power:       who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil;       for God was with him.       [39] And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the       Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:       [40] Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;       [41] Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to       us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.       [42] And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it       is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.       [43] To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever       believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.              Gentiles Receive the Holy Spirit              44 (Ac 11:15; 15:8) While Peter was still speaking these words,       the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the word.       45 (Ac 10:23; 2:38) All the believers of the circumcision who had come       with Peter were astonished, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been       poured out even on the Gentiles.       46 (Ac 2:4; 19:6) For they heard them speaking in other tongues       and magnifying God.       Then Peter continued,       47 (Ac 8:36) "Can anyone forbid water for baptizing these,       who have received the Holy Spirit as we have?"       48 (Ac 2:38; 8:16; 1Co 1:13-17) So he commanded them to be baptized       in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.              [44] While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them       which heard the word.       [45] And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as       came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift       of the Holy Ghost.       [46] For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered       Peter,       [47] Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have       received the Holy Ghost as well as we?       [48] And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then       prayed they him to tarry certain days.              Acts 11              Peter's Report to the Church in Jerusalem              1 The apostles and the brothers throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles       also had received the word of God.       2 (Ac 10:45) So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, those who were circumcised       disputed with him,       3 (Ac 10:28; Lk 15:2) saying, "You went in and ate with uncircumcised men!"       4 (Lk 1:3) Peter began explaining it to them in order, saying,       5 (Ac 10:9-32) "I was in the city of Joppa praying. And in a trance       I saw a vision: A vessel like a great sheet was descending, let down       from heaven by four corners, and it came to me.       6 I considered what I had observed and saw four-footed creatures       and wild beasts and reptiles and birds of the air.       7 Then I heard a voice saying to me, 'Rise, Peter; kill and eat.'       8 (Ro 14:14) "I said, 'Not at all, Lord. For nothing common       or unclean has at any time entered my mouth.'       9 "The voice answered from heaven a second time,       'What God has cleansed, do not call common.'       10 This happened three times. And again everything was taken up into heaven.       11 "And immediately three men sent from Caesarea to me came to the house       where I was.       12 (Ac 8:29; 10:23) The Spirit told me to go with them without hesitation.       Moreover these six brothers came with me, and we entered the man's house.       13 He told us how he had seen an angel in his house, who stood and said       to him, 'Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon whose surname is Peter.       14 (Ac 16:15; 10:22) He will speak words to you by which you       and all your household will be saved.'       15 "As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them,       as He fell on us at the beginning.       16 (Ac 1:5; Mt 3:11) Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said,              [continued in next message]              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
