   EXODUS 13   
      
   Consecration of the Firstborn   
      
   1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:   
   2 (Nu 3:13; Dt 15:19) Sanctify unto Me all the firstborn,   
   the firstborn of every womb among the children of Israel,   
    both of man and of beast. It is Mine.   
      
   [1] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,   
   [2] Sanctify unto me all the firstborn, whatsoever openeth the womb among   
   the children of Israel, both of man and of beast: it is mine.   
      
   ( THE Lord's not the Church)   
      
   The Feast of Unleavened Bread   
      
   3 (Ex 6:1; Dt 16:3) Moses said to the people,   
   "Remember this day, in which you came out from Egypt,   
   out of the house of bondage, for by strength of hand the Lord brought   
   you out from this place. Nothing leavened shall be eaten.   
   4 (Ex 23:15; 34:18) On this day, you are going out, in the month of Aviv.   
   5 (Ex 3:8; 6:8; 12:25-26) It shall be when the Lord brings you into   
   the land of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites   
   and the Hivites and the Jebusites, which He swore to your fathers   
   to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall keep   
   this ceremony in this month.   
   6 (Ex 12:15 -20) Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread,   
   and on the seventh day shall be a feast to the Lord.   
   7 (Ex 12:19) Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days. And there   
    shall be no leavened bread seen among you, nor shall there be leaven   
    seen among you in all your borders.   
   8 (Ex 13:14; Ps 44:1) You shall declare to your son on that day, saying,   
   - 'This is done because of that which the Lord did for me   
   when I came forth out of Egypt.'   
   9 (Dt 6:8; Ex 12:14) It shall be as a sign to you on your hand   
   and as a memorial on your forehead, in order that the Lord's law   
   may be in your mouth. For with a strong hand the Lord brought   
    you out of Egypt.   
   10 (Ex 12:14) You shall, therefore, keep this ordinance   
   at its appointed time from year to year.   
      
   [3] And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out   
   from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand the LORD   
   brought you out from this place: there shall no leavened bread be eaten.   
   [4] This day came ye out in the month Abib.   
   [5] And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the   
   Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Hivites, and the   
   Jebusites, which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with   
   milk and honey, that thou shalt keep this service in this month.   
   [6] Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, and in the seventh day shall   
   be a feast to the LORD.   
   [7] Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days; and there shall no leavened   
   bread be seen with thee, neither shall there be leaven seen with thee in all   
   thy quarters.   
   [8] And thou shalt shew thy son in that day, saying, This is done because of   
   that which the LORD did unto me when I came forth out of Egypt.   
   [9] And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thine hand, and for a memorial   
   between thine eyes, that the LORD's law may be in thy mouth: for with a   
   strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt.   
   [10] Thou shalt therefore keep this ordinance in his season from year to   
   year.   
      
   The Law of the Firstborn   
      
   11 "It shall be when the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites,   
    just as He swore to you and to your fathers, and shall give it you,   
   12 (Nu 18:15; Ex 34:19; Lev 27:26) that you shall set apart to the Lord   
   the first offspring of every womb and   
    the first offspring of every beast which you have.   
   The males shall be the Lord's.   
   13 (Ex 34:20; Nu 18:15-17) But every first offspring of a donkey   
    you shall redeem with a lamb.   
    And if you do not redeem it, then you shall break its neck,   
   and all the firstborn of man among your sons you shall redeem.   
   14 (Jos 4:6; Ex 13:3) "It shall be when your son asks you in time to come,   
   saying, 'What is this?' that you shall say to him, 'With a strong hand   
   the Lord brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage.   
   15 (Ex 12:29) And when Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go,   
   that the Lord killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt,   
    both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of beast.   
   Therefore, I sacrifice to the Lord the first male offspring   
   of every womb, but all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.'   
   16 (Ex 13:9; 13:14) It shall be as a sign on your hand   
   and as frontlets on your forehead,   
   for with a strong hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt."   
      
   [11] And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the   
   Canaanites, as he sware unto thee and to thy fathers, and shall give it   
   thee,   
   [12] That thou shalt set apart unto the LORD all that openeth the matrix,   
   and every firstling that cometh of a beast which thou hast; the males shall   
   be the LORD's.   
   [13] And every firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb; and if   
   thou wilt not redeem it, then thou shalt break his neck: and all the   
   firstborn of man among thy children shalt thou redeem.   
   [14] And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What   
   is this? that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand the LORD brought   
   us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage:   
   [15] And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD   
   slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man, and   
   the firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth   
   the matrix, being males; but all the firstborn of my children I redeem.   
   [16] And it shall be for a token upon thine hand, and for frontlets between   
   thine eyes: for by strength of hand the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt.   
      
   (Jesus was a firstborn to Mary and Joseph)   
      
   The Route of the Exodus   
      
   17 (Nu 14:1-4; Ex 14:11-12) Now when Pharaoh had let the people go,   
   God did not lead them through the way of the land of the Philistines,   
   although it was nearby. For God said, "Lest the people change their   
   minds when they see war, and they return to Egypt."   
   18 (Ex 14:2; Nu 33:6-8) Therefore, God led the people around,   
   through the way of the wilderness to the Red Sea,   
   and the children of Israel went up prepared for war out of the land of Egypt.   
   19 (Jos 24:32; Ac 7:16) Moses took the bones of Joseph with him,   
   for he had made the children of Israel solemnly swear, saying,   
   "God will surely attend to you,   
   and you shall carry my bones away from here with you."   
   20 They took their journey from Sukkoth and camped in Etham,   
   on the edge of the wilderness.   
   21 (Dt 1:33; Ne 9:12) The Lord went before them by day in   
   a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way,   
   and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light,   
   so that they might travel by day and by night.   
   22 He did not remove the pillar of cloud by day   
    or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.   
      
   [17] And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led
