   NUMBERS 8   
      
   The Seven Lamps   
      
   1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:   
   2 (Ex 25:37) Speak to Aaron and say to him: When you set up the lamps,   
   the seven lamps will give light before the lampstand.   
   3 Aaron did so. He lit the lamps before the lampstand,   
   as the Lord commanded Moses.   
   4 (Ex 25:9; 25:18) And this was the work of the lampstand:   
   hammered gold, to its shaft, to its flowers was beaten work.   
   According to the pattern which the Lord had shown Moses,   
   so he made the lampstand.   
      
   Numbers 8   
   [1] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,   
   [2] Speak unto Aaron, and say unto him, When thou lightest the lamps, the   
   seven lamps shall give light over against the candlestick.   
   [3] And Aaron did so; he lighted the lamps thereof over against the   
   candlestick, as the LORD commanded Moses.   
   [4] And this work of the candlestick was of beaten gold, unto the shaft   
   thereof, unto the flowers thereof, was beaten work: according unto the   
   pattern which the LORD had shewed Moses, so he made the candlestick.   
      
   Consecrating the Levites   
      
   5 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:   
   6 Take the Levites from among the children of Israel and cleanse them.   
   7 (Lev 8:6; Nu 19:13) Thus you will do to them to cleanse them: Splash   
   purifying water on them, and let them shave their whole body, and let   
   them wash their clothes, and so make themselves clean.   
   8 (Lev 2:1) Then let them take a young bull with its grain offering,   
   also fine flour mixed with oil, and you will take another young bull   
   as a sin offering.   
   9 (Ex 40:12; Lev 8:3) You will bring the Levites   
   before the tent of meeting. And you will gather the whole assembly   
   of the children of Israel together.   
   10 (Lev 1:4; Ac 6:6) And you will bring the Levites before the Lord.   
   And the children of Israel will put their hands on the Levites.   
   11 (Lev 7:30) And Aaron will offer the Levites before the Lord as a   
   wave offering of the children of Israel, that they may do the service   
   of the Lord.   
   12 (Ex 29:10; Lev 1:4) The Levites will lay their hands on the heads   
   of the bulls, and you will offer one as a sin offering and the other   
   as a burnt offering to the Lord, to make an atonement for the Levites.   
   13 (Nu 8:11; 8:21) You will set the Levites before Aaron and before his sons,   
   and offer them as a wave offering to the Lord.   
   14 (Nu 3:45) Thus will you separate the Levites   
   from among the children of Israel, and the Levites will be Mine.   
   15 (Nu 8:11; 8:13) And afterwards the Levites will go in to do   
   the service of the tent of meeting, and you will cleanse them   
   and offer them as a wave offering.   
   16 (Nu 3:12; 3:45) For they are completely set aside for Me   
   by the children of Israel. Instead of all who open the womb,   
   instead of the firstborn of all the children of Israel,   
   I have taken them for Myself.   
   17 (Ex 13:2; Lk 2:23) For all the firstborn of the children of Israel   
   are Mine, both man and animal. On the day that I struck every firstborn   
   in the land of Egypt I sanctified them for Myself.   
   18 I have taken the Levites instead of all the firstborn   
   of the children of Israel.   
   19 (Nu 1:53; 16:46) I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron   
   and to his sons from among the children of Israel, to serve   
   the service of the children of Israel in the tent of meeting   
   and to make an atonement for the children of Israel, so there   
   will be no plague among the children of Israel when the children   
   of Israel approach the sanctuary.   
   20 Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the children of   
   Israel did to the Levites; according to all that the Lord commanded   
   Moses concerning the Levites, so the children of Israel did to them.   
   21 (Nu 8:7; 8:11-13) The Levites cleansed themselves from sin,   
   and they washed their clothes, and Aaron offered them as a wave   
   offering before the Lord, and Aaron made an atonement   
   for them to cleanse them.   
   22 And after that the Levites went in to do their service   
   in the tent of meeting before Aaron and before his sons.   
   As the Lord had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them.   
   23 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:   
   24 (Nu 4:3; 1Ch 23:3) This is what belongs to the Levites:   
   From twenty-five years old and older they will go in to do their   
   duty concerning the service of the tent of meeting.   
   25 And from the age of fifty years they will cease doing their duty   
   concerning its service and will serve no more.   
   26 (Nu 1:53) But they will minister with their brothers   
   in the tent of meeting, to attend to their needs, but will not do the work.   
   Thus you will do to the Levites concerning their duties.   
      
   [5] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,   
   [6] Take the Levites from among the children of Israel, and cleanse them.   
   [7] And thus shalt thou do unto them, to cleanse them: Sprinkle water of   
   purifying upon them, and let them shave all their flesh, and let them wash   
   their clothes, and so make themselves clean.   
   [8] Then let them take a young bullock with his meat offering, even fine   
   flour mingled with oil, and another young bullock shalt thou take for a sin   
   offering.   
   [9] And thou shalt bring the Levites before the tabernacle of the   
   congregation: and thou shalt gather the whole assembly of the children of   
   Israel together:   
   [10] And thou shalt bring the Levites before the LORD: and the children of   
   Israel shall put their hands upon the Levites:   
   [11] And Aaron shall offer the Levites before the LORD for an offering of   
   the children of Israel, that they may execute the service of the LORD.   
   [12] And the Levites shall lay their hands upon the heads of the bullocks:   
   and thou shalt offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt   
   offering, unto the LORD, to make an atonement for the Levites.   
   [13] And thou shalt set the Levites before Aaron, and before his sons, and   
   offer them for an offering unto the LORD.   
   [14] Thus shalt thou separate the Levites from among the children of Israel:   
   and the Levites shall be mine.   
   [15] And after that shall the Levites go in to do the service of the   
   tabernacle of the congregation: and thou shalt cleanse them, and offer them   
   for an offering.   
   [16] For they are wholly given unto me from among the children of Israel;   
   instead of such as open every womb, even instead of the firstborn of all the   
   children of Israel, have I taken them unto me.   
   [17] For all the firstborn of the children of Israel are mine, both man and   
   beast: on the day that I smote every firstborn in the land of Egypt I   
   sanctified them for myself.   
   [18] And I have taken the Levites for all the firstborn of the children of   
   Israel.   
   [19] And I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from   
   among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in   
   the tabernacle of the congregation, and to make an atonement for the   
   children of Israel: that there be no plague among the children of Israel,
