 Just to be clear, here is my understanding of how this works.

1. You have to subscribe to an area using areafix. this has nothing to do with
creating the area locally
2. An area is created locally automagically as soon as a message arrives for
that group. 
3. The issue is with _sending_ messages to a group. If the group does not
exist locally you can create the group manually but then you need to 
a. ensure that your local group is tagged as networked
b. you are connected to the group via areafix
c. the group name is correct
