My wife and I used to live in Alaska. I have always wanted to move back but
my employer (a county government) never saw a reason to ope a branch office
there   :-)
In general, most of the writings, movies, and TV are somewhat based on
fact. However, "artistic license" is often overused. Despite a few qualms,
my wife moved there just after we were married.  I think her qualms were
allayed when we drove into Anchorage and she saw seven story parking
structures and numerous traffic lights.
Alaska is a huge area. imagine being asked to describe life in the lower 48
states. Culture and climate would vary dramatically between Raleigh NC,
International Falls, Minn, and Sand Diego CA. So to is Alaska.
