It's still a theory, but it's backed up by at least some evidence.

1. They know the location of a crater of a large, ocean hit.
2. They have a layer of (I want to say iridium, but don't quote me - it's a
rare mineral that is not found in quantity on Earth) across many areas of the
world at about the time the dinosaurs died.
3. They also have fossilized chared plant matter at the same time.

It's really hard to unravel something that happened literally millions of years
ago.  But we are not in a state of "no evidence".
