In 2020, the Republicans didn't really hold a primary, either.  It was
Trump vs. one or two people whose names I cannot even remember... I could
not even remember them before going to vote in the primary.  They were
names I'd never heard of.

That is what often happens with incumbents, though.

OTOH, in 2020, the Democrats had what, 15-20 people running at one point?
